About Our Acting Principal

Dr. Karla A. Peña is currently serving as the Acting Principal of Sherman Elementary School. Prior to this role, Dr. Peña served as the school’s Executive Director of Instruction (EDI), where she worked closely with campus leadership and teachers to strengthen instructional systems, improve student outcomes, and build leader capacity.

Dr. Peña brings extensive experience in instructional leadership, school turnaround, and systems alignment. She has served as a campus principal, executive director, and student services director supporting schools across multiple grade levels. As a former National Blue Ribbon Award–winning principal, her work centers on high-quality instruction, strong systems, and a deep commitment to student success.

At Sherman Elementary, Dr. Peña is focused on maintaining stability, supporting teachers, and ensuring that every student continues to receive high-quality instruction in a safe, supportive learning environment.
